My Philosophy of Education...

I think that education should broaden the students’ horizons about the world, people, and problems within the world.  Students should learn from a lot of hands on work and involvement.  I have always felt more comfortable learning something when I am involved with the process of learning.  Education should make you think and you should always be learning.  I also believe it is important to relate all things to one’s actual life; therefore, you are able to see how what you are learning applies to your life.  I am going to have a mainly student centered classroom when I am teaching.  Teachers are there to help explain things and guide the students in the right direction.  I will use a combination of progressivism, social reconstruction, and existentialism while teaching.  I believe it is important to have students learn by doing as well as from textbooks, but also should make the students think.  Education should help student understand themselves and what is around them as well as the injustices in the world.  Students should be taught basic information needed to know to survive as well as how to be responsible, an individual, respectful, hardworking, and a good citizen.
